im bringing this back up after Patti and i talked about this we still gave up our year round site but we thought about it and with all the money we have tide up in camper truck and everything else we use for camping why should we cut back on camping ???

a 300 mile round trip 2 years ago cost us $45.00 in gas this year with fuel cost going to be say $4.00 a gallon it will cost us $60.00 is that $15.00 worth letting thousands of dollars worth of equipment sit ??

NO not to us we are going to enjoy every weekend we can go camping i would rather cut back on going out to dinner a couple times a month and have the chance to sit by a campfire with my DW so i say LETS GO CAMPING !!!

Dan

You have a magic pickup truck :fing32: 300 mile round trip with the truck costs me around $136 @ $4.00 a gallon/9 mpg.

Yer math doesn't seem to add up, either that GMC gets 20 mpg towing or yer sleeping in your truck cap and empty yer GMC is getting 20mpg. $60/300 miles @ $4.00 a gallon = 15 gallons of gas/20mpg.

well joe my math adds up for me i tow a 3500 lb trailer with the gmc 1/2 ton with a 6cly 3:73 when unloaded at 55mph i get 22mpg and with the trailer at 55mph i get 19.8 mpg so as you see it adds up

Dan, I can't remember, didn't you downsize yer trailer not that long ago as well? The last time I looked at picture of your TT I kept remembering it being a 24' aluminum sided jobby.

EDIT: Just googled wilmington

Yer north west of my family's hometown. Now that I see it on a map, I drove through there once to get around the I-80/57 Interchange mess. So, defintely, pancake lands :happy0017: That explains yer mileage.

We gonna have to bring ya to Oregon to get a real world fuel economy estimate with that beasty :happy0017:. Just amazed yer pulling @ 19mpg on E10 gas with a 6 Cylinder and a barn door effect not much smaller than yer average TC.

who is useing E10 that is a joke sure its 60 cents a gallon cheaper but you lose about 4 mpg that was just a way for fuel producers to con the public i use mid grade witch today was $3.59 a gallon and set the speed at 55 and away i go that 10-15 mph slower makes a hudge difference

Its mandated in Oregon for all gasoline grades now. All pumps list 10% ethanol added, which is basically E10. The Ram eats it the same as anything else and gets about the same mileage, but I will note that the power potential seems to be less.

Btw, the E10 doesn't make the gas here any cheaper than the non E-10 anywhere else.

The last time I went through Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, most of the 87 Octane pumps were E10 and since the brain farm in Springfield hasn't proven to be any smarter than the lot out here, I figured they'd have jumped on mandating E10 for all grades, like Oregon.

Talking about mpg I just heard a good one my buddy in Florida has a guy next to him that said he gets 35mpg with his Duramax but its still going to cost him $600 to pull the fiver home to Ont. In case everyone doesn,t know that 1200miles I wonder if he,s taking the long way through California.

Everyone is worried about traveling to the camping destination and what it will cost.
I still plan on traveling to the lake with the TC and then burning more on the water, skiing till I run out of fuel myself.
If that lake doesn't melt soon, I'm getting out the axe so I can get back to skiing.

Very Few campers on highways. On Monday morning at 10 a.m. I made an 80 mile interstate trip between Lafayette and Alexandria, LA on I-49. I decided to count RVs on the road. At 58 miles into the trip heading north, I encountered two 5th wheelers within a mile or two of each other. Both were huge, 3 axle jobs.

On the trip home today, (Thursday) at 7 pm to dark, 40 miles into the trip, I encountered two 26' Travel Trailers running together, and a diesel bus/pusher about 2 miles behind them.

That was it. School's out...people should be traveling.

I'm going to keep up this observation on my next few trips.

Perhaps the topic title for this thread should be edited to read: $5. per gallon ??
