Geocaching and TC would seem to go well together. Are there any other "cachers" out there? Metal detector enthusiasts?

We have been Geocaching for several years, not obsessed with caching like some can be. We look up several caches in areas where we go TCing and try to find them when we are out. It's fun and always takes us to interesting locations. I am on geocaching.com as RvrRnr.

If you are in our area, give us a shout and I make some suggestions for good cache hunts.

For me it all started when my wife gave me a GPS. I adventure out a lot, but there I was with a expencive handheld and couldn't think of things to use it for when I wasn't on a trip. So I looked up GPS on the web and low and behold many of the posts pointed to geocaching. It's an activity set up so that people with GPS technology can get out and use it in either a town or the surrounding country side. I checked it out and have had fun hunting caches ever since.

There are several caches around "the show" in NEB and we have a travel bug looking for a new home. We are pueblobonito or Nana and Papa when caching and camping with the grandkids.

Bigfoot: If you're at the show we'll take you out for a short trip.

I first read about geocaching on Rvers Online saw there were a few very close to home so i borrowed a GPS and was hooked did 400 caches the first year and saw places I never new existed a great hobby if you come to the island let me know and we'll show you around.

There is a possibility that we might get over your way in late July/early August. We have a friend who has a cabin on Denman Island and then some friends fish out of Port Hardy. They all want us to come up and visit this summer. Also have a friends in Nanaimo and Comox so we will try to connect with them. Don't know how we got to know so many of you from the Island. It's a beautiful area and great to explore. Our only problem is we are scheduled for several river trips and we have to work our how to best use our vacation. We'll keep you posted.

BUMP!!

Any others who geocache?

I have a little and plan to do more once the TC is on the road.

I think it would be fun to get the locals together for a day tripper of caching...  :071:

I'm under the same name ~ jamminalong

Would also be a fun event at the Rallies! Just saying...

Going to give Geocaching a try this weekend along the California central coast south of Big Sur.  Think it will be fun for my 4 year old to go treasure hunting.

I've been geocaching for about six years; long enough to wear out one GPS.  At Christmas I acquired a new Garmin 78 GPS so I can go out by myself. For the past six months or so, I have needed to go with my son since his GPS works.  Its a lot of fun, especially when you take a trip. Its a great family event. Most of my caching has been in New Mexico with a little bit in Colorado. My son has cached all over including in Alaska.

I can add a microSD to my new GPS so I can add more topographical maps.  I'm just waiting to find the money to buy a 32 GB one. (Almost all my spare or loose change has gone into fixing/repairing/maintaining a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee I bought in October. Its been a money pit but it is fun to drive.  I bought it so I could get into areas I can't get with my Dodge Ram.  New Mexico has some real challenging caches.

BTW: I use the name "Harried Harry".

We gave it a try a couple of weeks ago while camping. At first my 5 year old wasn't too sure about it, but when we found the cache and he got to see what was inside, he thought it was very cool. It's a treasure hunt and fun to do when you're out camping. You can check what's around where you'll be. I downloaded to MyTopoMaps and was good to go.

Rich I'll bring my gps so you can look at it. I think your son would love to do it with you. Here's a few pics... You can see some are big and hold toys and some are micro so you only sign it to log your name.
