First TC. We picked it up March 18 - still reading all the bloody manuals! :-)

I've researched TCs for the last two years, just after we bought the F250 used.
However, we were limited in the selection of manufacturers within
a decent 2 hour or less driving distance - namely, S&S and Lance. We
went with the Lance, tho it was a close call.

Before the Lance, it was a '69 red VW Campmobile for a couple years back
in the mid 70's, followed by a '71 VW pop-up Campmobile - again, for a
couple of years. Then it was tents and a topper on a '85 Chevy S10 4x4,
which got me all over the U.S. for about 18 years. Still plan on tenting along
with the Lance.

2003 Lance 920

Firrst TC. Picked it up last week in Sacramento and drove home to Fremont - about 125 miles. My only trip so far. Planning on a 10 day trip to Lake Taho and around to the back door of Yosemite for my vacation a month from now.

Had camper vans(3) in the past.

First TC - Lance 815 Extended cab - been trying to buy since I bought my 99 Dodge Ram QC 2500 SB SRW TDI - but stuff kept happening. Followed by 2 years elsewhere, after 9/11 - so finally decided the heck with it - last year and bought one.

Not, my first RV though - I have seen the light and we have been downsizing since my first Class A around 78 and Our Class C around 88. So, I've gone from 2 wheel drive gas guzzlers to 4x4 running on B20 Turbo diesel - and it likes the logging roads better than the coaches ever did.

So, the important stuff - Fantastic Fan - no A/C, Solar 64W, stove/oven, all extra pkgs, awning, have camped 4mos. total since last April summer, fall and little winter - and I still like it with no regrets. About the same on the RAM - 138K miles and Cummins is great - now if only the body lasts.

This will be our first! We've always had a trailer of some kind in the past.

Hopefully within 2 weeks we'll be the proud owners (along with the bank) of a Lance 835 ordered from the factory with the bells and whistles the WE wanted. It includes:
  • All Weather Package
  • Convenience Package
  • Solar Panel (yeah I know I shudda just got it prepped for solar and bought the panel elsewhere, but I wanted the Lance 2yr bumper ot bumper on everything)
  • Innerspring Mattress
  • Stereo Ready
  • Electric Jacks
  • etc., etc.
I'll probably be a real PITA asking questions once it arrives.

04 Lance 1121... First TC. Former tent and conversion van camper. I needed a rolling office and motel from which to work in all 4 seasons. Something with the size of a small Class C and the manuverability of a Class B. And yes... I still look forward to vacations... in my TC, of course.

First TC for us together, combined, married!

Lance 1061, 2004, purchased used in December 2005, fully loaded with all the packages -- nothing left off
Ford F-350, 2006, purchased new in December 2005, crew cab, long bed, Diesel, 4x4, dually

So far we have put on 7525 miles. Trip 1 - 2100 miles CA, AZ, NV, UT, WY and return. Trip 2 - 4400 miles CA, AZ, NM, TX, OK, MI, AK CO and return.

Planning on being at Ogallala, NE in JUne 2006!

Previously, wife had a 1980 F250 Ford diesel, with an unknown 1974 camper. She has the experience with t/c.

I previously had a 2004 27' Trail Bay travel trailer and pulled it with a 2004 VW Toureg.

But after pulling the trailer along US 1 from Crescent City CA to Santa Barbara, CA we shifted our RVing mode of living and travel to the truck/camper. Much better! Advantages which we gained -- shorter in length, more manuverable on the highway, byway and in parking lots, fully contrained, better gas mileage and more Federal and State parks are now accessible!

Safe Traveling!

I hope you booked at Lone Eagle for Nebraska, When I checked today there were about 8 sites left. The next option is going to be private campgrounds.

Admin Beddows... thanks for the tip to check out the Lone Eagle State Campground. When I did I found they now had only five spots left; so I am booked into the campground from June 15 to 19th for 5 days.

When in the USAF I was stationed at Lincoln AFB 1965/66 and Offutt AFB 1981/84, but haven't been back in the area since. My wife's cousins have a farm/homestead in Central City so we are intested in this Rally and some additional visiting/touring in the area.

Safe Traveling...

The first few times we 'camped' in our old truck ('02 2500HD D/A) it was using a fiberglass cap. I had the raised floor so we had a blow-up queen size bed. The wooden floor was cut to the length of the bed and there was JUST enough room for the porta-potti to sit by the tailgate....

Last year, we upgraded to an Adventurer 80W. Got a tremendous deal on it on ebay. Bought it based on pictures alone (it was about 750 miles from home). Being as it was brand new and the favorable opinions I found from other Adventurer owners, I thought we were AOK buying it sight unseen. Fortunately, I was right. We used the camper a bunch during the past year and had briefly talked about upgrading to a little larger camper. We even stopped in at the closest Adventurer dealer to us (about 300 miles) and looked at other campers that would 'fit' our 3/4 ton long-bed truck. They wouldn't give us anywhere near what we thought our camper was worth. No where near...

Then, a little over a week ago I heard a message... A message from my car radio... The message said "Big sale on GMC trucks - return to supplier pricing". I thought it was a bit of BS, but figured I had a few hours I could blow (It was mid-morning on a Saturday). I really thought car sales were pretty much all BS (sell you a car for a 'reduced' price while simultaneously giving you a large reduction in the value of your trade-in). I was wrong this time. Not only did I manage to buy a 2006 GMC 3500 Dually crew-cab, Duramax/Allison at 11K under the original sticker price, but they gave me at least $2K over book for my '02 2500HD. So, now I'm the proud owner of a DUALLY.

Naturally, I had to go to the nearest TC dealer (just to window shop). For those of you that live out west, you need to understand that only about 1 in every 50 RV dealers carry TC's out here. This dealer carries Lance TCs and usually has a pretty good stock (about a dozen or so). Not only did they give me almost double for my trade-in (as compared to the Adventurer dealer in MA), but they discounted the camper $6K below list because it was a 2005 left-over.

So, next week, we'll pick up our NEW Lance 1121. It is LOADED. It not only has the decor package, all weather package, convenience package and exterior package, it also has A/C, on-board generator, fantastic fan, microwave oven and satelite dish.

We're looking forward to spending LOTS of time in it this year, we'll be full-timing Aug/Sep/Oct. Heading to the Pacific Northwest, then to the Southwest, across the country to the Florida panhandle then heading back to PA. We'll have the toybox with us. What will be in the toybox still has to be decided. We know we'll have our bicycles (road and mountain) and Joan's Honda Rebel 250. But what has to be decided is whether we bring the ATVs or we bring my '65 427 Cobra replica that I'm almost finished building...

Wow Cruizin sounds to me like you got a great deal on both the camper and the truck nice shopping. Now for you plans you have some really cool places thought out you will enjoy the traveling. Are you going to be able to make the show in June in Nebraska? It would be nice to meet you and see your set up. Have fun and it is like Christmas waiting to pick up your camper.

xnorp,

Joan and I are getting married on June 24th and I'm retiring on 31 July. While I wish I could make it to the show in June, but there just isn't any time. Believe me, I've got a LOT to do between now and then!

We've got a whole list of places we want to visit. Some new places plus some old favorites. I'm really planning on keeping a log of our journey (a first for me). We haven't finalized any plans yet. We KNOW we're going to the Black Hills SD, Devils Tower WY, Denver CO (Joan's sister and mother), Glacier Nat Park MT, Crater Lake Nat Park OR, Sequoya Nat Park CA, Grand Canyon AZ, Albuquerque NM (sister) , Fort Worth TX (brother) ... We're going to offload the camper at each temporary home and stay until we're ready to leave. Maybe we'll find somewhere we don't want to leave - if so, that will be on the list of 'where we want to retire to'.

Steve

Hi there, I just joined and I have a 2005 1030. Loaded with everything but the Gen. This is my first camper anything. I bought it mainly for a quick getaway vehicle in case it gets windy down here. Of course I practice evacuating as much as possible. :fing32:

Three Truck Campers owned; 3 tents owned; 3 cabins owned through history. Now only own a TC.

First TC, (can't remember brand) about a 1971 model 9' on a Chev gas dually. Sold in or about 1990.

Second, Lance 900, 1992 model 11', wet bath on a Chev diesel dually. Kept 2 years and upgraded to:

Current Lance 990, 1996 model 11'. Same floor plan as the current 1130. Upgraded for generator and dry bath and more open floor plan.

Next upgrade planned; 2005 or 2006 Dodge diesel dually. Then 'maybe' a slide-out TC.

NO COMPLAINTS with this TC design. It's quite open and flowing. I've actually lived in it 4 days a week on a remote work job for the last 1.5 years. Teaches you the lesson, 'A place for everything, and everything in its place."

Leaving for New Mexico for a week's trek next week. Can't wait to hit the highway with the TC.

Doug

3 TC's:

1973 Aspen on 1997 GMC 2500, no mods (bought for $500...still being used as storage at my house.)
2001 S&S 8.5SC on same truck, added strong wheels/tires, airbags, Ranchos - sold a few weeks ago.

2006 Lance 1191 on Kodiak 4500 truck. LOve the camper but there are some things I'd change, most of which Lance has already done. NOt really design/layout issues, we really like the layout and don't feel like we need a second slide-out or anything. The biggest changes I'd make is a passenger-side cabover window (now available) and side-of-the-slide windows, which they do NOT offer at this point (they used to.)
2006 Lance 1191 - loaded, on 2005 Chevy Kodiak/4500 4WD. Average GVW 18,250 pounds not counting trailer.

I had a Sunlite camper before I bought the 2005 Lance 1010 while on vacation in Texas. My wife and I went in dealership to buy a new toilet paper holder and a door stop. Got sidetracted. Come out with a new Lance four hours later. Hi to Robby from Mason Michigan. I am from Gaines Michigan.
