I got called in to my family physician today. My cholesterol has been a bit wacky of late. Bad cholesterol is OK but good cholesterol is a little low. The good doctor says that he is going to change my prescription and that I need to get on my bicycle a little more and have a glass of red wine each night. I tell him that I don't like red wine, it gives me a headache. He says, well then have a cocktail or a shot of whiskey each night. I said that I thought I could manage that. He says, do you drink Scotch? I reply that when there is a good occasion and I can afford it. He says, hold on and come s back in and says that some pharmaceutical company gave him a bottle of Scotch as a Christmas gift and he doesn't like it. He hands me a quart of Johnny Walker Black Label 12 year old Scotch. Now is this a good Doctor or what? Usually, I dread trips to the doctor's office, but after this prescription, I might change my mind.

My grandfather was a blender of scotch. So its in the blood. As much as possible.

If you can handle it, a good way to lower cholesterol is to grind up flax seeds that you can buy quite cheap, in a coffee grinder. Mix a couple of teaspoons a day in a small glass of something strong like orange juice & chug it down.
