What is one item you wished you had for your camper that you do not have now?

After many years of truck camping the one item my camper does not have that I wished it did is a rear awning over the door.

love everyday like you won the lotto.

Right now we are pretty happy with our setup and not needing anything else. It would be nice to have whole rig inverter with on demand generator starting - It's a convenience we never had, so we are not really missing it. What I wish for the most is more time to go out camping, so I guess my camper needs a time machine?

I've been hoping for a U.S. Treasury quality printing machine with an ample supply of ink, currency quality paper, $100.00 plates and the necessary embedded strips.  If you help me get this I'll help you get what you guys want for your campers.  What are friends for.   :-)

I've decided this coming summer I'm planting money plants instead of vegetables in my garden plot.  I understand if I let them mature till next fall they will turn gold and be worth a lot more.

Just One item?
As a gadget junkie, I'm always looking for neat stuff to add to the rig.
Cant ever have enough technology on the camper or the truck.

However, I do run out of ideas…
...but mostly, I run out of the time & money needed to feed my gadget addiction. sconfused_100-137.gif

A simple push on-push off switched fan in our TC bathroom. When we ordered our Lance, the only fan offered was a Fantastic Fan in the ceiling between the bathroom and the dinette (worst possible location?).

I wish I had a hard sided pop up manufactured by Northstar.
I have been a tent camper since my Boy Scout days long, long, ago. Now I need to get up off of the cold ground to get a good nights rest, a truck camper seems to be the best choice. I am here to learn as much as I can.

when I see trucks, of course depending on the model, selling for 50-60 K and truck campers for 50K and up. I could sell everything I own and still not afford one. I am glad others can. keeps the economy going.

oh well.

Good point!

I proposed a $110,000 budget when I started looking for my first RV a few years ago.

I knew little about RV's (namely truck campers), but I figured $110k would be plenty...

Hah! Silly me!

I had to down-size twice to be able to go from what I wanted to what I could actually afford.

My second mistake was under estimating the thousands it would cost to equip the camper and mod the truck so that it was truly functional and not just eye-candy.

I've learned lots thanks to helpful forums like this one :), but it has been a pricey journey.

Recent camper modifications have been...

1.) Putting proper & effective exhaust ventilation in the wet-bath.

2.) Upgrading the sound system from poor to mediocre.

3.) Moving the parking sensors from the (useless) rear bumper of the truck to the (very helpful) rear bumper of the camper.

4.) Numerous AC & DC electrical system improvements.

Current projects include...

1.) Making the on-board generator quiet... Very very quiet.

2.) Improving the camera systems; both the hard-wired system on the truck and the WiFi system on the camper.

Upcoming projects...

1.) Additional upgrades to the (mediocre) sound system that was mentioned above.

2.) Making it possible to dump the blackwater into the greywater tank if that emergency should ever arise.

So I guess you could say that the idea is to create a camper that has what it should have so I'm not "wishing" it had anything that I forgot.  :fing32:

Cool thread!

-Ej-

I went on the Princess Craft, Texas website, looked at a Host Mammoth 11.5 - price $76K. And that is for the TC only. what kind of truck do you need to haul that thing around?

That depends on well you deal and whether you buy new or used. I'm about $150k into truck, camper, trailer, toys and upgrades with a mix of new and used purchases since 1993 to get to the current running total. I'm not even going to start counting what I have owned and later sold off.

You need a 3500 DRW to haul a Mammoth, but you need more if you plan to tow behind it. Expect 2.5-3 tons sitting in the back of your truck.

2012 Interstate Car Carrier ICC10220TA3, 20'x8.5', 8" I-beam frame, dual 5200 lb 4" drop torsion axles, Diamond plate, Towmax 225/75R15 LRE tires on galvanized rims, Harbor Freight 10k lb equalizing hitch, Camping World vent cover, LED lighting, 3' RV door, front and rear door interior light switches, interior plywood walls and floor, 70' of Harbor Freight E-track rail with recessed corner 5k lb D-rings, Dual 42 gal fresh water tanks with Harbor Freight transfer pump, portable dual Harbor Freight 45w solar arrays, 100 lbs LPG in four bottles, PowerArmor Max Solar 5-battery box, Deka 24HR3000 sealed batteries

2015 Ram 5500 HD 4wd Tradesman 60" CA, Crew cab with 173.4" wheelbase, 19,000 lb GVWR with 26,000 lb GCWR, Cummins I6 6.7 liter diesel with chassis cab tune 325 hp @ 2800 rpm and 750 ft-lb @ 1700 rpm, Aisin AS69RC 6-speed automatic, Borg Warner 44-47 manual transfer case, 14.5k lb Dana S14-111L limited slip and 7250 lb Magna Steyr 275mm with 4.44 ratios, Palfinger Badger low sill flat bed, Dual DeeZee 36x18x18 under bed boxes, Quad DeeZee 48x18x18 above bed boxes, Curt Double Lock 30K lb gooseneck, Dual 3/4" horse stall mats, SuperHitch Magnum 30K dual receiver with 42" SuperTruss, Upper StableLoads, Short range FastGun turnbuckles, 10 Deka 24HR3000 sealed batteries

2018 Host Mammoth 11.5, Polarized dual pane windows, Powered and lit awning, 6-stair Revolution GlowSteps, Swing out Rieco-Titan jacks, Fantastic Fan in cab over, Aero-Flo vent covers, 3x160w Zamp Solar with 30A controller, External 24" TV with DVD, Cargo slide tray, dual 6-volt batteries, 2.5KW LPG Onan, External LPG connection, 2-way water heater, Therford 3-burner cook top, Convection/Microwave, 8 cu ft 2-way Norcold Fridge, Loveseat with foot rest, U-shaped dinette, 1000W PSW Zamp inverter, King Jack amplified OTA antenna, 40" Samsung UN40J5200 smart TV in living room, Electric heater fireplace, Accordion bedroom door, Full wall passenger-side cab over wardrobe, 32" Samsung UN32J5205 smart TV in Bedroom

My budget for my new 2017 F-450 King Ranch was $100K.  Pretty much spent it all or will between the new truck and upgrades for towing, plowing, camper tie downs, 5th wheel bed hitch, Super Hitch, front receiver hitch and some up-fitter upgrades to the cab, idle up, 12 volt to a bed stake pocket (L/F) for plowing strobe light and a couple more goodies.

Love this new truck.  Quiet, plenty of power, nice ride.  Can't wait to tow the 40' 5'er and haul the camper with it.

Currently sitting outside with a ton of fir wood pellets in the back waiting to be unloaded.  Where is Sally when I need her?  She loves unloading 50, forty lb bags of pellets.

I like your style. :fing32:

Back in 2015 I budgeted $110k for a short bed Dodge and a small camper thinking I'd have plenty of buying power.

Heh... I made it but it was a tight fit.

As for your truck... A 2017 F450 is a beautiful truck, and the KIng Ranch trim level is gorgeous.

Best of luck with the new equipment!
