It finally happened. My grey tank overflowed. All due to one of our dachshunds. Yep. We were hooked to shore power and water and the dogs were inside the camper where it was nice and cool with the a/c on. Our sink is by the cab over and our dachshunds climb steps up to the bed to get in. Our littlest one Trixie has to walk by the sink, turn around and then get on to the bed. So she walks between the little short wall and the water controls for the sink, they are round knobs. Well, she turned on the cold water by rubbing against it and over filled the grey tank. What a pain!

So know I have an idea of a cover to place over the knobs when we are hooked to shore hookups. Going outside to turn the water valve off and on would be a pain. Obviously when using the water tank you simply turn the pump off.

Better than over filling your black tank. My friend's trailer had a toilet flush valve that started leaking because the pedal did not fully return...

Speaking of black tanks, years ago some friends of our had a big, old, 38' Owens aft-cabin cruiser. They took it to the local state park to use the pump-out facility. When they started the pump, for some unknown reason, the unit started pumping in the wrong direction. There were a few really exciting moments there, when they figured-out what was happening! A little like Robin Williams in "RV!"

I will ask this question: On full hookups, I open the gray dump so that endless flow of fresh water does not fill the tank too fast when washing dishes and showering. Before my last shower, I close the gray so it can be used to flush the hose after the black is drained. Do you not hook up the sewer until your gray tank is full?

No, I never leave either of the valves open. I do not want a problem if the sewer hose has an issue. Then again...I had an issue with it closed. LOL.

We never take long showers or run the water continuesly (except when a damn dog does it) so I have never been close to filling the tanks. We pretty much treat it like we have no hookups for usage. Just a habit I guess.

When on hookups, I run the electric and gas water heater at the same time to almost get continuous hot water in my shower. If I don't look like a cooked lobster when done, the water is not hot enough.

lol.

I usually do not even hook up the sewer hose when I have full hookups. I do lay the hose out to be ready to use. Such was the case of this incident. I figure it is one less thing to disconnect when taking the camper out exploring.

Rich that is terrible.  At least you don't have a clumsy, big ass German Shepard.  They don't turn on faucets they just break em off.

Didn't you have the campers bilge pump turned on?

I'm just hoping Trip doesn't figure out the foot pedal on the porcelain drinking fountain in the 5'er head.  Water on demand....
