We ran across a Lance 1161 for sale at a local dealer. It was a 2004 and appeared to be in nice shape overall. The exception was that the section of the body under the slide sagged almost an inch across it's length. Is that a problem? It seems to me I read something fairly recently about that model having some issues.

Prior to 2005 Lance framed their TC with wood. Many had issues with rotted wood in that area. In 2005 they started using aluminum framing.

Sounds like a huge problem to me. There's no way I'd even consider buying it.

If you go to RV.net and search for an old thread (probably 2006 or so) by "Sleepy", you'll see that he fixed the sag of his 1161 using some u-shaped metal.    He describes a lot of the process.

I found an 1161 rebuild thread on another forum. What a mess that was! I didn't go all the way through it, but it quickly confirmed my lack of interest in slides, and in spending a lot on a camper in general. Our old Jayco TT with the aluminum roof and aluminum frame looks better to me all the time, and the Sunline TC had all the rebuild work done by the previous owner, so that should last as long as we care, if we can't sell it for a smaller camper. The 1161 I saw for sale just made me curious because that sag under the slide rang a distant bell.

Oliver, the wife and I recently we got the urge for more room while parked and thought a TC with a slide would be our replacement camper.

We made the trek to look at one and I told the wife, "If you like the inside, I get the outside.  Your job is to go in there and spend a lot of time.  Pretend you move everything from our non-slide into this one and tell me what you think

After a couple of hours of sitting, crawling, closing the slide and pretending to use it that way, and on and on, she said, "Do what you want."    In MARRIAGE LANGUAGE, that means "NO!!!!!!!"   I interpreted those code words and decided to pass.

The simplicity of keeping our 1130 is of a greater advantage.  We have a new love for our 1130 and the greener grass across the fence won't sway us any more.
