Do truck campers require their own title and registration?  I live in SC and the DMV website only speaks of registration for Types A, B, and C.

Thanks in advance,

Depends on the state, some do and some dont. You will have to check with your states requirements.

Here in Washington they are registered and licensed.

Try to get a MSO with a new purchase if your state does not title them. This will make a later sale easier for someone who does require registration and make your camper worth more to more buyers.

In the state of Texas all you need is a hand shake and the exchange of cash. As for plates one off your truck all thats needed or a copy of your plate number.

In Montana----------

dojmt.gov › Motor Vehicle Division – MVD

  1.
  2.

The Title and Registration Bureau regulates the titling and registration of motor ... Pickup campers are an exception—they must be titled, but are not registered.

CR,

We are NOT the folks you should be talking to.  You need to talk to your states Motor Vehicle department.  They, and only they, will know the requirements specific to South Carolina.  Call them or go to the nearest office to you.  Speak to a supervisor if possible as some worker bees may not know for sure or mat not even know what a truck camper is.  Every state will have unique requirements.  Good luck!

Neither ND (where we lived when we bought our TC) nor MN (where we now live) require titling/licensing.  I kept the sales receipt from when I bought it to prove I own it.

Is a MSO transferable when buying a used TC or should we request a new one from the manufacturer?

Washington state does but Alaska only requires you take the rear plate off your truck and place it on the rear of the camper so it is visible to the rear of the rig.

Best to call your department of motor vehicles for details. In texas all we need to do is make a copy and laminate it or transfer the plate back and forth or as I did I have VN plates and was issued a new set with same  numbers only defferent color so far its been fine
