Hello all:

For those who have met Trip our German Shepherd over our years of meeting you at various events here is an update.

This past summer he was very sick and went from 70 lbs down to 50 lbs.  He was skin and bones.  The vet didn't have a clue but after many attempts to resolve his health issue(s) he has made a full recovery and is like a puppy again.

Today I took him by the local Vet to use their scale to get a current weight.   He tipped the scale at an all time high weight of 73.8 lbs.   I have been thrilled with his recovery.  It hasn't been cheap but Hey, He's My Boy!  He's always been known locally as the "skinny German Shepherd dog".

Dan:

Ask your vet to research this medication.  Sally found a problem on line that recommended this as a solution.  Every symptom met Trip's symptoms so we spent the $$$ and got a bottle brought in and it seems to have done the trick.  Trip also lost muscle tone with all his weight loss, lost energy, coat was looking bad and since he felt so crappy he wasn't playful at all.  Being he was skin and bones.  He would not jump into the vehicle but needed help loading up to go for a ride which he loves to do.

Now he's back to normal.   He began his Fall shed during his recovery process so we had undercoat fur everywhere for 4-5 weeks.  But it has passed and his coat looks good again.

VET ONE

PancrePlus

Pancreatic Enzyme Concentrate plus fat soluble vitamins.  500 mg tablets.  Trip gets 2 in the AM and 2 in the PM.  We have also put him on one Puppy Prozac capsule/day.    Since he's also pretty hyper, always has been.

I'm so happy to once again be able to play with Trip without fear of breaking him.  Tuff to wrestle with a skeleton.  :-(  Now he has meat and muscle on his bones.   :-)

We also have Trip on Vet prescription food.   Hills Z/D for Food Sensitive's.  He's always had loose stools but had cow patties during his weight loss episode.

Dan, good luck with Shelby.  We're hoping this helps or you find another solution for a fast recovery.  I'll ask Sally to forward you the exact definition of what the issue is we are thinking was affecting Trip so you can bounce it off your vet.   When Sally found it and read it to me it hit the nail on the head for Trip's symptoms.   Things have been sunshine and rainbows since we started this course of treatment.  Snif, snif.

George

Had a cat years ago that was loosing weight.  Pass a live tape worm about 8" long.  Vet but her on meds and she passed handfuls of dead worms,  absolutely gross.

Glad to hear Trip is doing better. Ours are 16 and 12 years old with their own special needs, but they still enjoyed running up and down the Ocean Shores beach earlier this week. It was nice to see them being able to just act like dogs and have fun.
