i am very sorry to have to pass on sad news, Carol Emerson just called me to say that Dean "Bubba" Emerson passed away a couple of hours ago while traveling from the rally in Colorado Springs to his home in Washington. It was, she thought, a heart attack. They were somewhere west of Valentine Nebraska. I am very sad, Dean was a good friend of mine, I just spoke to him a couple of days ago. I am having a little trouble seeing the what I am typing for the tears in my eyes for the passing of a good man, an Army Vietnam veteran and friend

I am deeply saddened to learn of this news and my heart aches for Carol and the rest of the family. We just spent time with Bubba and Carol in Colorado Springs listening to him talk about the early days of the club. It was an enjoyable time. He was a good man and will be sorely missed.

This was from my first rally where I met Bubba.

The interstate system of highways is fine for getting where you need to be in a hurry, but it's the road less traveled that is more enjoyable. Take in the scenery before life passes you by in a blur.

Memories of Bubba

Bubba, you will be missed. I am so saddened to learn that Bubba has gone on to a better place. My thoughts and prayers are with you Bubba, and your lovely wife Carol, and all of your family.

I spoke with Carol and she told me that they were setting up camp in a remote location when she found Bubba half in/out of the drivers seat. He was unresponsive. 911 was called but it took over 30 minutes for them to get there because of all the dirt roads they had to go down. Carol and some friends did CPR in the meantime.

Well Bubba, at least you went where you loved to be, CAMPING'. I hope that when my time comes I will be in the same 'camper' doing what I like best!

RIP Bubba

Just a week ago I sat with him and my wife at a picnic table we had at our booth for the rally in Colorado Springs. We talked for good spells in between trainings and folks stopping by to ask questions. He was one of the first I met when I joined Torklift years ago. A good friend and a loyal camper and advisor to all. We will miss him certainly, but having had those few minutes with him at this years rally is now very special. Rest in peace my friend, wee ya soon.

I still remember traveling with Dean & Carol to Ogalala for that show in his Northern lite. I slept on the dinette, with one of those retrievers sleeping on  my chest, terrified of the thunder. I had a lot of opportunities to get to know Dean well on that trip. Although he often seemed quite reserved on the outside, he was truly a wonderful person. First Xnorp and now Bubba, 2 icons in this organization. It's making me feel old. Both were Vietnam vets and you really have to wonder how much the chemicals they must have been exposed to contributed to what were 2 far too short lives..

Dean finally got 100% disability a year or two ago. He suffered from bullet and shrapnel wounds. I know what he went through in Vietnam, and I am very sure, as Paul said, the wounds, chemicals and poor care given to our vets had a direct impact on both Dean and George. I would add one person to Paul's list of members who have passed that had a impact on our club, that would be Snoweiver Bob.

Dean's Funeral will be Monday September 17th at 2:15 at the National Cemetery in Kent Washington, with a celebration of his life at Covington City Hall following the funeral. Carol told me that Dean's headstone will have, besides the normal rank, DOB, DOD service branch and conflict, will have the inscription "gone camping". I think Bubba will like that!
