with the gas buddy app on a smart phone you can see the prices from where you are standing, then decide where you are going to drive to buy from, takes the guess work out.

as i stated on this kind of topic last year around this time when they always start raising the prices....i dont let it change my plans on getting the camper out. the only thing i do less of is go out to eat or maybe buy the trinket at a shop while out on vacation, things like that. i am here only for a short time  in this world and i will be going camping no matter what. in fact....im going camping the next few weekends.

i was at the gas station a few weeks ago filling up the truck with the camper. a guy at the next pump said "id hate to fill that up". i told him i dont mind. its the price of having the fun i like to do. if i waited for the prices to drop before i went out then i would not be going anywhere, ever.

gas price around here....$3. and something or other.

For all the other expensive hobbies (or bad habits) I don't have, buying diesel to go camping is a bargain.   And, it doesn't occur every week of the year like buying fuel to go to work does.  We just needn't go as far as we'd like, and it all works out the same.

I actually saw diesel priced less than premium and almost the same as mid-grade gas in San Jose the other day.

well that sucked. no matter what the price of fuel i hate dumping it on the ground. i just filled my old 74 chevy last night. the crossover 3/8 fuel hose got a split in it and leaked fuel all night long. i was out there at 530 this morning fixing the hose. so that yes....makes for very expensive fuel!

WOW, I better step up my fun activities.  You da-man!!!

Ciphering a bit.......$600 / $3.75 = 160 gallons a month.  $600 x 12 months = $7200 a year in diesel.  (Ugh).  160 x 13 MPG =  2080 miles per month.   2080 / 4 weekends = 520 miles per weekend.    Half 520 (there and back) is 260 miles one way per weekend.   260 miles divided by an average speed of 50 mph is 5 hours, one way per weekend.    40 hours behind the wheel per month!

You ARE da-man!  Really seeing some countryside.

More like $4.00-4.25/gallon of fuel and closer 10 mpg. Winter months is a weekly climb from sea level to over 4000' elevation with just the TC. Most flat land camping has the TC with 2000-6000 lbs in tow in the winter. Once summer hits, there are longer trips towing 6000 lbs over mountains. We already have longer trips planned to SoCal and MO this year and those do not include the ones we regularly take through OR & WA. The truck is averaging 750 miles a month on short local trips and the 2500-5000 mile long trips just add to that...

We're at $3.799 in upstate NY, at least our area. There's always some excuse why it won't go back down, but the record profits posted by the oil companies every year seem to point to greed as the real motivator. I think if lake Ontario was full of high-test, instead of water, they'd still find an excuse to keep the price up. All that said, we will still go camping as long as we both have our health!

Paid $4.49 for premium this morning, had to smog Red and get new tags. Passed with flying colors and have been averaging 11.3mpg with the S&S on her. I've been taking it slow and easy lately and my gain in mpg is showing it.

Haven't worried about it much so far, no plans to take the camper anywhere this year thus far, though I do hope the higher prices put a crimp on RV sales again and drive the prices on the big 5ers down some more :), so I can get a good deal on an older Montana 30-32'er to move up here to the Island as the new home.

I doubt the camper and I will be going anywhere for a long time, this year will have a lot of expenses with a new home and the getting the marrying paperwork finally done and the wifey-to-be finally moving in and being a dependent for a while till she finds new work, then next year there'll be new high expenses with needing to locate some health insurance for the two of us, all of this why I made the big trip before the election last year, cause I doubt we'll be able to afford it again for a long time.

Sucks for me, the Canadian dollar has lost ground against the us over the last 2 weeks. It was 1.03 when i came down, now its at 0.97. That raised fuel costs for my northward transit. Its about 3.15 in Mexico.

Gas is a dollar less in the USA, 6 miles south of me, so much about the talk of world pricing.
