You can still have a "registered handgun" if you're a Canadian. Just can't run around with it in a holster. loaded, strapped to your hip.

OK, thank-you...I have a place to cast my vote now. :D
Or maybe, not...some people might enjoy the element of surprise...
The law here for handguns from what I can remember is...they cannot be concealed and you can only take them to the firing range and back home again. No hunting animals with them.
No we don't own personally have handguns, but you can carry rifles, shotguns and the likes, if they're registered and so must the person owing/carrying them. You cannot buy ammo unless you have the proper "gun license". Of course it just keeps the honest people honest. Does nothing to deter criminals. :(

Thats funny-though Id like to think more dont enjoy being surprised....and the question of wether or not the occupants of a lone T/C in the backwoods are armed or not would give some a reason to pause.

Since I've had to handle weapons as part of my job for 31 years I don't carry or own a personal weapon (handgun). I've seen what they can do to the human body in untrained hands. Let us never forget that yes, you can register and own side arms in Canada but that doesn't mean you can use them, even in self defense of person or property. About the only way you can justify shootin' someone is if you have a couple of slugs in yourself. At times it makes me shudder to think of the number of weapons that are out there in untrained hands. This is not a debate but some cold hard facts. Leave them where they belong, in the gunsmith's shop or locked away in a vault. There is no place for them or to secure them in an RV......................Steve...

Your right Steve, one should be trained on the safe and proper use of any weapon.

ROTFLMAO...very funny.
But, you never know in a pinch what one might use. :D :P

BTW, did anyone here about the guy that was camped just outside of Calgary a couple of years ago?
Some wacko pounded on his camper door in the middle of the night to tell him that something was leaking from his TC (a rental). The guy gets out (a European tourist) to look and the wacko starts to beat on him. Little does the wacko know that the European is some kind of marshall arts expert. Guess who won?? The wacko got killed right there on the spot. The last I heard is the European got off on self defense.
The moral of the story...don't mess with anyone camped in Alberta and no, one doesn't need guns to defend yourself. B)

Sure wish I'd had one a couple of years back when a guy cranked up his home depot generator at 5 in the morning next to me. Justifiable homicide if ever there was a case.
