The new forum release has this built in so I activated it.(see new button on nav bar above) You can add your own. However don't do that yet,. I will try & get it to reference the existing map Gary created.

Actually that may not be possible, The map in the forum is tied to your handle. Only registered members can post on it. Hold off til I get a hold of Gary, everyone may have to go there & post their own

IF you have already entered your location in the old map go ahead & try it in the new anyway. You can type your whole address not just your town if you wish. It pinned me to the correct location..

The one advantage of the one built in is that members can add, delete or update their info themselves. I have made it invisible to people not registered. They don't see the link.

True, but there are differences. The principal one being that members can add, delete & edit their own info rather than having to ask Gary to do it. Its too bad we did not know this feature was available in this release back in March.

The other option is to make it visible only to paid members & have those wishing to participate in members helping members add their info so people can get an overview of where people in that program are located, however I don't think the info will disappear when someone quits and is downgraded, so it will eventually fill up with locations that are no longer valid..

So I guess it comes down to whether its worth just emailing everyone & asking them to enter their own info in the new one, or axe the feature. IMO in the long run, people being able to control their own entry, is preferable, despite the hassle of the 40 or so already there having to enter their own info in the new one. Otherwise we have to continuously keep this thread alive so people know who to contact for adds changes or deletions. I can place a link to the existing map easily enough, but it may be confusing when people can't see how to add themselves.

It appears on the forum one you can toggle to google earth for an aerial view of the location, easier, but the directions option is not there as in the one Gary put up. I will ask the app author about that.

I will leave it up to Gary, he started it. Maybe those who already entered info can chime in on it with their opinion..

Well, a really don't have a home town, since I live in a county and want nothing to do with associating with the city of "Portlandia", so you can just put these GPS coordinates for me Posted Image.

Co-ordinates work. Just not in your format. I put in the co-ordinates for the place I usually camp in mexico in this format: W 104.69337
N 19.21676. It worked.

It just occurred to me one advantage of being able to add you own is you can change your own location if you move seasonally if you have a GPS.

I honestly don't know why we're listed as Portland, given that we're closer to Scappoose and St. Helens.
