I don't buy this, but we can't do anything else, except change hosts or account type. The reason I don't buy it is because the slowness occurs in the AM hours PST and this is not the time the forum is most active.

Dear Paul Beddows,

The status of your ticket (1069159) has been changed from Open to Resolved by Taras R.

This update was added:
Dear Paul,

Our administrators rechecked the server and found it working stable. Please note that the slowness may occur by number of requests to your script at certain period of time. We kindly request you to double check this, as there's no further update or configuration change we can perform on the server side. Should you have any further questions or concerns regarding this, please feel free to contact us.

Sincerely,

I have refrained from commenting on the speed of the forum as I know the folks here are working on it... but other than the time when the 2 "New Content" tabs were disabled, it is still extremely slow.

The very early morning hour of 5 am is the only time I get a chance to check in on the forum most days and it won't let me in a lot of the time. The slowness is probably the problem for my satellite Internet provider. Hope this gets fixed.

I created a poll to see if we can find some kind of a pattern to the bad times. Then we can go back to the web host and tell them to check again... ;)

You created the poll but neglected to have a time/ option choice of "Slow all times of the day." I would have replied there, but the thread is locked.

We are not interested in that. We have to pin down the real trouble times in order to get any action on it. For myself the speed is significantly slower in the AM.

I picked one time (9am - 12noon) Pacific time because that was the closest to my "regular" slowness. But I agree that having more options would have been better. I've had slowness issues in the morning most often, but I've also had slowness issues in the afternoon. It's been slow at work and at home, so using both T1 lines (I think that's what they're called at work) which are usually super fast, as well as my wireless at home. And using IE6 (work) and IE7 (home) and Google Chrome (home).

I agree that it isn't just one time of the day - but that was the best choice I could pick.

The forum speed varies from time to time because it is shared hosting. . .
. . .not because there is anything wrong with the Natcoa forum.

Its the hosting companies fault because the hosting company allots too many active server type websites (like forums) to the server.
Unlike static websites, active server websites require more bandwidth and make the server disks spin all the time.
(okay. . .its a simplified explanation, but you get it)

There are probably other "forums" if you will, that are on our same server.
And they may be in any time zone around the world.
So when they get active, our server takes more time to handle all the requests.

A good hosting company will pay attention to what kind of websites are on a shared server.
Apparently, the Natcoa host isn't paying attention, or doesn't care.
Or they just want us to ante up and pay for a dedicated server.

The poll results won't make any difference. Your host just wants to move you to a more expensive server.
That might be the way to go, but I'd rather see you with a good hosting company to begin with.

You are probably right, however I am seeing similar complaints on the IPS support forum from others on a variety of hosts. A virtual dedicated server is likely the only way to solve the problem, but we have not decided if we want to pay the increased costs (about $500 a year) associated with that.

When I hit the "back" arrow button on my browser to return to previous page it is immediate!

When clicking into a new page, forum or topic there is a slight lag time (3-5 seconds or so...) but it is overall much faster. I am not going to complain about this lag time but it was instantaneous in the past. Previewing a reply is taking about this same 3-5 seconds (whereas it used to be instant.)

Please don't take this as complaining... just feedback... It is a great improvement!

Much easier to navigate this website now.
